Dr Jacques Ludik, will be speaking at Economist Impact, part of The Economist Group, 2nd annual Sustainability Week Africa on
October 30th – 31st, 2025 at The Westin, Cape Town
https://events.economist.com/sustainability-week-africa/
Opening keynote panel “Africa: how the continent can succeed with AI”
Artificial intelligence promises to transform everything from agriculture and education, to healthcare and finance. It has the potential to improve public services and drive innovation. But risks loom: “data colonialism” (where Western firms hoover up developing-country data), algorithmic bias (notably affecting people of colour) and privacy. Will the technology spread misinformation and widen social divides or spark inclusive growth? How can African policymakers, entrepreneurs and investors shape the technology for the benefit of all?
Moderated by
Vijay Vaitheeswaran, global energy and climate innovation editor, The Economist
